Club Committees
Horticulture
The Horticulture Committee nourishes the love of gardening by instructing members through hands-on workshops, lectures, and sharing resources. In addition, we work to educate our members and the surrounding community on the importance of native plants in our gardens.
Coordinating with other GCA Clubs, Rye Garden Club members participate in seed and plant exchanges and successfully compete in flower shows.
Floral Design
Flower shows offer an opportunity to showcase the imagination of the Club’s premier designers, and offer the public inspiration for how a floral design can delight and awaken the senses.
Rye Garden Club members have mastered the art of balancing flowers in perfect harmony, and benefit from informative workshops that teach the basic mechanics of professional floral design. From breakfast table to ballroom, a floral arrangement infuses joy and beauty into the space.
Conservation
The Rye Garden Club has a long tradition of educating its members and the community on environmental and conservation issues. In 2015, RGC created a walk-in Pollinator Garden at the Edith G. Read Wildlife Sanctuary. RGC members volunteer in the classroom to teach conservation to Rye nursery and elementary school students by presenting their “Drip and Drop” and “Environscape” curriculum. This helps the children understand how their actions impact the ecological balance of this unique coastal town.
For more than two decades RGC has contributed the “Green Space” column in The Rye Record. The column covers a breadth of current topics such as gardening with native plants, recycling, and much more.
Photography
The Photography Committee is committed to educating its members and the public on new photography techniques and tricks that provide endless inspiration. This enhanced appreciation for photography translates into an even greater appreciation of the natural world.
