Purchase Street Pots
Throughout the year RGC members bring out their gloves and garden tools to refresh planters up and down Purchase Street, as well as the Square House and Knapp Island gardens.
Amaryllis Bulbs
Every holiday season RGC members grow and distribute amaryllis plants to all of the public buildings throughout Rye. These vivid red blooms are a gift of appreciation for the dedicated employees who make Rye a better place.
Holiday Cheer
No holiday would be complete with the RGC members festooning the doors of the Rye library and Square House with wreaths, garlands, bows, and their signature owls. The town has grown to love these colorful embellishments to this joy filled season.
RGC members have always put their hearts and hands into community improvement, with the current emphasis on planting seasonal flowers in the pots on Purchase Street, maintaining the landscape at Knapp Island, and the Square House Garden. Members join annually before the holiday season to decorate the main town square which includes City Hall, the Rye Free Reading Room, and The Square House with wreaths, garlands, and festive greens.
In 2008, RGC restored the original kitchen garden behind the historic Square House - known as a favorite public house during the Revolutionary War, where George Washington dined and spent the night.
Year after year, and throughout the seasons, the women of the Rye Garden Club embrace their steadfast commitment to actively serving the community. The old adage many hands make light work is fully brought to life by the club’s hard-working and dedicated members.
